A business commitment forced me out into the cold yesterday and up from Brooklyn to Northern Manhattan. Columbia Presbyterian is there; a complex of historic old buildings and new ones.
Dr. Bruce must be a pretty special dude.
How's this for a nice bit of corporate culture? (That's an oxymoron, by the way.)
The subway station is pretty cool as well. I get hot for these old lamps.

awesome! i used to work at columbia presbyterian! i got off at the 1/9 station at 168th every day :) manm, waiting for the crowds to file outta those huge elevators was a truly weird experience.

also: the weird thing is that there's still a homeless shelter in the ground level/basement of the armory. it was odd to come out of work when they were having a big track/field meet and see the homeless guys tweaking out or panhandling the crowds of college coeds jogging up and down 168th and fort. washington to warm up... theres a movie (www.imdb.com/title/tt0108026
) about that area.

i really wish i had some photos of it when it was packed during the morning rush. an elevator the size of a van filled with 100 people... in teh summertime, it got up to like 120 in there, hahaha.

Ugh, that elevator sounds worse than the ones they have at the Covent Garden tube station in London. The first time I went in there I took the stairs having not noticed the sign saying how far it was to walk down (and potentially dangerous).

aha! theres a rumor (urban legend?) that there was a "speakeasy" in-between the two floors of that elevator back in the prohibition days that a special "heyword" to the operator got you into. its too late now, but ill track down the documentation for this story tomorrow so you can decide for yourself...
