There's a pretty major graffiti wall up on 109th and Broadway, on the south wall of the Foot Locker. Unfortunately, the exposure to open weather and sun-drenched nature of the spot, which is probably why its such a prominent wall to get up on, is taking its toll on the pieces there.

So, the past few times I've walked by, I've picked up a flake or two of the peeling spray-ennamel with the hopes of making something from them; so today I went by and filled an old cigar box with some of the more colorful pieces, with the hope of making some sort of mosaic with the little flaky shards of color.

Some passersby looked at me oddly as I reached as high as I could to plick off the cleanest, smoothest loose flakes. A few people stopped and talked to me- one was guessing I was collecting the pieces to test for lead, one surmised I was crazy. Ahh, New York City. But after explaining my premise and digressing into a rant about art-from-art and street-art and such, they seemed pretty interested in what I was planning. Thats good; the people around here appreciate their street art.

yep... i never got around to doing the project- too muc hmoving and working and stuff- but i do have the chips still... maybe ill make a go at it finally!
