When they say hand car, do they mean wheelbarrow?
(It looks distinctly chilly there, by the way)

Peter: 30th Nov 2005 - 14:47 GMT

i like teh "fireworks on sale here" signs. are illegal here.

elaine: 30th Nov 2005 - 16:42 GMT

1) it struck me as strange - i started imagining small rollerscates for hands and all sorts
2) bloody freezing - wrap up warm
3) i pray for the day - pesky fireworks

adam: hand car = british feet car = american

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 30th Nov 2005 - 20:41 GMT

feet car like Fred Flintstone?

Peter: 30th Nov 2005 - 20:43 GMT

id have to say that i believe that theyre referring to the washing of a car by hand.

but just to play along, let me toss out the idea of a hand TRUCK:

well yes, you got me there. this is around the corner from me and it's sloppy signage usually pisses me off. the only thing it is good for is when giving directions to taxi drivers (it's near where there used to be a texaco garage) but today i looked at it afresh and started playing with the hand car idea. vroom vroom mittens ;-D

Peter: 30th Nov 2005 - 21:33 GMT

hehehehehe :) vroom!

i like giving tersely cryptic taxi directions... turn left at yellow . make a right at broken sign then left to large bush.

elaine: 1st Dec 2005 - 08:34 GMT

hah! less cryptic than you think - taxi drivers know immediately where you mean if you give them the nearest petrol station, even if it is extinct.

elaine: 1st Dec 2005 - 08:35 GMT

but at least this was a change in my more ballistic attitude which is - why can't these bloody beople get a signwriter in or at least buy some sticky letters, grouse grouse

jack: 1st Dec 2005 - 16:36 GMT

i cant believe that all of you never heard of a hand car! i, i just can't believe it!!!!!!!!!

8> =D &/ X) 3^>: im lost in all this taxi talk

elaine: cab?

bee: 17th Jan 2006 - 14:38 GMT

taxi drivers might know this place as the hand car but every other fucker in the area seemed convinced that there was a 24 hour garage 'just down the road' when i was hunting for a fresh 'leccy meter top-up at 2am. (and this included the convenience store owner from 6 doors down and the slightly panicky seeming posh-bloke emerging from the strip club up the road,, both of who should know better,,,) imagine my suprise to find out that its been shut long enough to regress to the hand car age.

elaine: 17th Jan 2006 - 14:54 GMT

taxi drivers might not know it as the hand car, but they do respond to 'it's the turning just before the old texaco garage'. there is a bp garage on cambridge heath road, opposite the museum of childhood that stays open late, dunno if they charge leccy keys tho (but there is a cashpoint, which is something rare enough round here)

elaine: more classy signage, j!

Guy McLaren: 22nd Nov 2006 - 03:50 GMT

Ok, While I am out this week I will get pics of signage African style, You think those are rough, at least the spelling is good. When I see signs like that it says entrepeneur broke, soon to be fabulously wealthy, not some lazy bastard that is looking for hand outs.
