The Bright Lights of Astoria
Browsing articles by Catherinepenfold-waxman - [previous] :: [next]
Last night, the rain made everything glisten, like a Queens girl's lipgloss. The Astoria merchants have spared no expense with their holiday lights.
In New York it's common to have christmas lights (fairy lights to the Brits) wrapped around trees all year round. The effect is better during the winter, and it's very lovely to see the tree lit up (right...plastic, electricity and nature in perfect harmony). These lights are around a bunch of long-suffering trees outside Omonia Cafe on Broadway.
This tree appears to be sporting ankle socks of light, as some of the bulbs have gone. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 17th Nov 2005 - 14:46 GMTThe christmas lights went up last week, around the 10th of November. But I saw wrapping paper for sale the last week of August. *~Nina~*: 28th Nov 2005 - 17:34 GMT"...glisten like a Queens girl's lipgloss..." hahaha lol dasz so0o tru!! BZZZP: 2nd Dec 2005 - 17:59 GMTthose bastard lights on broadway piss me off. why half-half? why not just do whole sets further apart? arg. then again i'm never sober when i'm on broadway, so that may have something to do with this angst. i'll have to shoot the very eastern block lights under ditmars now, been meaning to but flaking.
