What kind of a view does £300 a month get you in this town? This kind, that's what.

image 6407

Much nicer than the view i used to enjoy from my first floor* maisonette on a run down estate.

* American readers: for first floor read second floor. Here in the UK we start from "ground floor" and work upwards, whereas you, quite sensibly, start with "first floor"

I never really took many photos of churchill avenue, there are some of the outdoor sofas but i think that's about it. I'd go back and take more, but as a non-resident, i don't think it'd wash. Going back to read the meters (which are situated underneath the kitchen window of the crazy disabled guy who lives in the flat underneath was difficult enough.

looks alright to me.
i saw the full moon this morning from my kitchen. and also this little chap. these boys are recent arrivals from somewhere. what are they? greenfinches maybe? at first the bluetits held their own, but i saw these little thugs seeing off my little chums this morning which was a bit sad. magpie comes along a bit later for his nosh. i think he still expects bacon rind, tho it's been a while

sure looks like some kind of finch to me...are those sprouts in your seed dish?

elaine: 17th Nov 2005 - 13:07 GMT

they are now. until the greedy buggers came along the bluetits and the occasional starling and the magpie were a bit sniffy about the millet that was in the seed mix and would pick through to the sunflower seeds, and since that is, nominally, a plantpot, when it rained the millet started sprouting

Peter: 17th Nov 2005 - 14:40 GMT

jamie- nice rooftops/view! all those terracotta roof tiles and matching chimneys. here, everything is roofed with tar-paper and tin, with sooty broken brick chimneys... like this...

elaine: nice bird! def looks like a finch of sorts. we have sprouting millet too, and sometimes grow catnip in the same box. also: our birds pick out the sunflower seeds too. smart buggers, they are,

on the subject of views. i've just dug up some old photos of the view of the allotments i used to have at my old place. it was the only redeeming feature of that place. that estate was like living in colditz.

elaine: 17th Nov 2005 - 14:57 GMT

yeah, it's got a lovely green hue - if it's a finch it is a greenfinchimage 6415

yep, that's the one, you can see it's greenyness in this

elaine: 17th Nov 2005 - 14:58 GMT

Jamie: and live in it

elaine: 17th Nov 2005 - 15:05 GMT

you can. i would have a studio

Peter: 17th Nov 2005 - 15:19 GMT

a shed! i thought that to be an outhouse! lol... :D :D

Jamie: 17th Nov 2005 - 15:21 GMT

Peter: hehehehehehe j/k

Peter: 17th Nov 2005 - 15:22 GMT

barry: 18th Nov 2005 - 00:00 GMT

Jamie you have a lovely view from your new place. You can see all around.".Nice one

Jamie: 7th Jul 2006 - 23:33 GMT

300 a month gets you a flat which, though not cleaned or decorated for a substantial length of time prior to moving in, costs you half your deposit in 'cleaning', 'decorating' and the removal of the bed the landlord said was ok to leave when moving out. even though you could have removed it the previous week with the van you'd hired, and the property was left in a better condition than you recieived it, that's what 300 a month gets you with robert bell and company.
