Attack of the Giant Phones
Browsing articles by Catherinepenfold-waxman - [previous] :: [next]I was just out getting lunch. Hearing a ruckus behind me on 42nd street, I turned around to see a mob of angry people. A giant red phone was bearing down on me. A moment of panic. Why is it always New York that gets trashed in every apocalyptic/alien/monster movie? Anyhoo, turns out it was a protest march. I read the pamphlet they handed me. MCI (a telecom giant) apparently owns the phone lines at the NY prisons and gouges the inmates for every collect call (the only kind they can make). It cost 630% more for their collect calls than a regular customer.

MCI-WorldCom, anyone?! hahahaha! what a fiasco. jeeff: 17th Nov 2005 - 04:19 GMTps. i like that guy (reporter?) out front in the first photo. it looks like they're protesting him.
