Here are a selection of images from his recent trip to the Palestinian territories, where he has created nine of his images on Israel's highly controversial 425-mile-long West Bank barrier. Separating Israel from the Palestinian territories, is considered illegal by the United Nations.

One of the pictures shows two gleeful children with bucket and spade standing beneath a hole in the wall that opens on to a vista of a tropical paradise. In another, he has transformed the wall into a cosy sitting room complete with two enormous armchairs and a window that frames an alpine landscape.

Other pictures show a little boy kneeling at the foot of a rope ladder that snakes to the top of the wall and the silhouette of a girl rising through the air clutching balloons.

An old Palestinian man said his painting made the wall look beautiful. thanked him, only to be told: "We don't want it to be beautiful, we hate this wall. Go home."

i would tend to agree with the old man. a clever juxtaposition for banksy to enjoy, a shitty reminder for those whose lives are contained by that wall.

Peter: 10th Nov 2005 - 15:36 GMT

this reminds me of all the graf- political, profound and otherwise- that covered the wall... this wall is so similar, in many ways... physically and metaphysically.

elaine: 10th Nov 2005 - 15:58 GMT

i do too, it seems unremittingly frivilous. if he had just done the one with the balloons that would have been better, alone it would have had a little poignancy

Jamie: 10th Nov 2005 - 17:07 GMT

i agree. i only saw the one with the baloons on tv. it seems fitting in a way the other so totally don't. i suppose in a way the little girl being carried over the wall could symbolise hope for the people of palestine. hope executed in non-violence. the others seem to me to almost tease or poke fun at the captive population. i duno, perhaps the artist was just caught up in the excitement of what he was doing. or what he thought he was doing. or more probably where he was doing it.

Banksy is the shit! The puppet masters will want to squash this kind of expression but they forget they bombard us with their crap non-stop, theres no escape! Go hard brotha

tom: 23rd Aug 2007 - 02:02 GMT

Does this wall go all around the West Bank? I thought it was just between Israel and the West Bank. Does it go along the Jordanian border as well? Are the Palestinians totally surrounded, like the West Berliners were? That's awful.

Peanut: 28th Sep 2008 - 20:53 GMT

Is anyone out there, that isn't controlled by walls?

Franny Wentzel: 9th May 2009 - 23:57 GMT

Gee... if Palistinians would just stop sending kytusha rockets and suicide bombers into Isreal, maybe they wouldn't feel the need for a wall...

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2009 - 23:15 GMT

The wall itself and the reasons for its existence are one debate that could go on forever.

When you have two peoples, both with valid claims to the same land, conflict is all but inevitable.

The strategy of terrorism that is used by some Palestinians, and tacitly supported by many others, is plainly wrong. It is Israel's justification for building the wall, and a crime against humanity.

The policy of communal punishments, and the denial of Palestinian human rights as implemented by many successive Israeli governments, is also plainly wrong. It is Palestine's justification for attacking Israel, and is yet another crime against humanity.

Using this wall as a pretext for a land grab only helps to degrade the situation even further.

No matter which side you look at it from, this wall is a symbol of the failure of humanity.
