I live in broooklyn, on the south of crown heights.

I can tell u a lot about the gang/drug trade here.

but I think that you should go first. you posted a tease. tell us what you, yourself, and I bet you'll get ten times as many comments.

and more eloquent/passionate ones.

and isn't that what you want?

are the baldies still around? i sat on the curb of my street in 1958 in brooklyn with a baseball bat because i wanted to help the coney island gang in the big fight. the avenue u boys were ready and the ave o boys were stationed all over the mcdonald ave area. the baldies never came and i played ball and hit a triple with the bat in my best game ever.

Peter: jack, i love that you comment here. #1 comments!

StripesA4: 20th Oct 2005 - 22:39 GMT

yea im just a advid observer of the underground scene in NYc. NYc doesnt wanna be seen as a gang city even though it obviously is. theres over 57 gangs represented in major numbers in rikers ilsand alone. A doc would blow this city wide open.

its not crooklyn you ninny, its brooklyn. you think your something because you inhabit the area now, but years ago many people worked and created families and a great symbol of americanism was born in brooklyn and people were proud of it. and you morons who got your knowledge of english from comic books and trash material think you have it all over everyone. well years from now, if your still alive you will either be in jail or you will be cleaning toilets in hotels wondering how the american mainstream way of life got away from you. so smarten up fool and read some good books about how people made this country and the freedom you enjoy. there are many young men and women in graves who died for the freedoms you waste. there still is time. wake up and become the american your supposed to be, and wave an american flag in your car and not the flag of another country.

The difficulty of being interested in gangs, opposed to gangs, part of a gang, or even a cop tring to bust gangs is that on the net, the wannabes are able to fake things better. How can you tell who is who? Gang activity on the net is like cybersex; you may THINK you are chatting with a sexy lady, but in actuality, you may be chatting with a toothless 55 year old hillbilly who weighs 500 pounds and cannot walk herself to the toilet. Meanwhile the friendly woman who did not care for you being all pervy turns out to be a supermodel. With the gang scene, I would think the same applies. The real guys are probably quiet, while the loud ones are wannabes. But then again, you never know for sure...

just to let you no, new yorks crime has gone done signifcantly, as well as gang activity, so though there may be gangs, and such and drugs, new york is nothing at all compared to what it use to be with the projects and such, i'd say more of old new york would be today's chicago.

Mika M: 26th Feb 2007 - 14:59 GMT

Im from finland and in finland we have only Helvetin enkelit ( Hells angels) gang, and it is so dangerous gang. And my own city, we have Vanhaliitto ( oldcommunity ). In that gang those peoples are usual drug users and sellers too.

iman: 9th Apr 2007 - 15:22 GMT

jack, the baldies ended a long while ago. and your right, it's not like brooklyn is a ghetto, maybe there are some people who live that way, but if you just live like a citizen and not a gang member, nothing will happen. i've only lived here in bensonhurst for almost 4 months, but i take evening walks all the time and i have not seen a thing, just how nice the town is at night. and to gladis, what part did you live in?

QNS4Life: 29th Feb 2008 - 03:42 GMT

Ive lived in flushing my whole life and went to school at Brooklyn Tech in Ft Greene which was once completely burnt out and is now becoming gentrified. Maybe we dont have so much crime cuz the property values are so high and the poor are relegated to the projects. Plus people probably realize that the crack epedemic is over. Its not like L.A. where the unemployed have sprawling suburbs and with cheap housing. The geographic limitations of the city prevent that. Even the area around Latimer Gardens projects here in flushtown where the hookers are by pathmark a burnt out house goes for 500K.

GJcool DUDE: 21st Apr 2008 - 21:39 GMT

Alot people have been living with no direction and misdirection threw out there entire lives in the ghetto's,all over the world. The criminal mentality and immoral behaviors has not been wiped out off the face of this earth because,to keep it simple, since childhood we learn these trait's from the world around us,from the adult world. And gets passed down like a torch, from generation to generation...The core of all our problems(yes, all our problems!)comes from government, wich makes it sound like there higher than life,"government".It's really just a few politicians who are corrupt and hate life. Now not all politicians are corrupt, some honestly do believe in the system, but all the high ranking members such as senators and above that, are most definately corrupt. They couldn't move up the latter without there high ranking buddies leting'em and voting for them to be there. And in order for them to qualify for such seats as the senate, they have to have a stand up record of "achievment files"."Achievment Files"is what they call for how much trouble and grieve they've caused in society or how many businesses they regulated on or desroyed, etc. One thing governments around the world have in common is that they practice platonistic philosophy, from Plato, the ancient Greek philosipher, also known as the father of the criminal mind.As opposed to all goodness Aristotle, father of the business mind.I've drifted away from the point a little, corrupt people running things in government only puts a drain in society, and this is how ghetto's spring up threw out the world, people being supressed. We need more Aristetolean people in government, because business is good,if you think about it for a second,it's what makes the world go round, everything from food to space shuttles to the clothes on your back, gets put out there in the market through business, since the beginning of civilazation. And civilazation will be saved in the form of business.Despite the fact of how big government has succeeded on making lies and creating myths about the honest businessman for hundreds of years, calling'em no good greedy people who's only interest is in money and have no compassion for fellowman. It's an old trick of the book they've used over and over, they say "true facts out of context".Something will happen wether it's good or bad(bad,as an accident)and they will twist the story so that it works against you,or make the accident seem as if it were done on purpose. They use the media for this.I could go on and on about this,it's an endless web of deception, but I'll say this, kids being in gangs all the way from NY to LA to cartels in Colombia to child soldiers in Africa and to our beautifull girls soliciting sex for money is an immoral blow to our humanity.WE ARE ALL KINGS AND QUEENS!We were not meant to live like this,we are in "reallity" very brilliant beings,Our minds are extremly powerfull, and we were meant to live in harmony.Times are changing for the better, mans next evolutionary leap is here,a new way of thinking,we are all geniuses, and if you think your preaty smart now,it's almost nothing compare to what your really capable of!(this is not an exageration nor is it mystical,it is 100%true)You will know what I'm talking about sooner or later, either by the news or by a friend in the neighborhood,so hang in there, and stop that gang bangin',just wait till you see this, this is huge, you will want to stick around for this!

mavone: 13th Aug 2008 - 01:29 GMT
