Toronto Dive Bars

- JayEastsider - Thursday, September 15th, 2005 : goo

Like many other major cities in the world they have what I like to call dive bars which I rather enjoy more so then stuck up night clubs or over priced restaurant/lounges. Usually you will find many a good soul in these places filled with broken dreams and lost loves. These are two pictures of my new project Toronto dive bars. To note most of these places pose as legit restaurants but you will be hard pressed to find any food there but the beer is usually cheap but most often there are many fights.

Just to note I had to take the picture of the Buffalo 2 on from the side beacause there where some dudes in the front window that looked like they wanted to kill me

whats the deal on the inside of the maple leaf?
no shots?

Scott: 13th Apr 2006 - 02:21 GMT

The Maple Leaf Tavern is terrific. I've been going there for years, and my friend Nick and I had an amazing art/circus/music event there.
Chris the bartender is the best.

The Maple Leaf is perfection. All establishments should be this incredible. Awesome people + great prices + fun karaoke + crack laced joints = One of the best nights you'll spend in boring Toronto

Madcow: 24th May 2007 - 22:18 GMT

Try the Ulster Arms on errard St E between Coxwell and Greenwood, and you will understand the true meaning of 'Dive Bar'

Madcow: 24th May 2007 - 22:21 GMT

Another one: it's called Crossroads and its at Coxwell + Daforth. Real dive. Real dive. Feels like drinking in a prison or mental assylum.

how 'bout the Noah's Arc Tavern at Danforth/Main? Get yer Newfies by the dozen...always a fight or 2, generally good natured folk, heavy funk O beer and something in there...nice on a date.

kleyed: 25th Oct 2008 - 01:39 GMT

ok i love the leaf, hi chris, and i am going to the ulster tonight, but nothing compares to my bar on gerrard just west of the leaf, oooeeee baby.

Jeremy: 30th Apr 2009 - 03:06 GMT

Went to the Maple Leaf Tavern tonight on a dare. It was great. It smelled like homeless armpits and you could smell the downstairs bathroom from outside. There was one kind of beer on tap and it was fresh, cold and only $11.50 a pitcher. There were about 15 down-and-outs, heads in hands, watching Judge Judy...I kid you not!!

outside observer : 25th Jul 2009 - 01:56 GMT

Wandered into the Maple Leaf one night. Some wench named Kim does the
Karaoke there with some guy who likes to show the crack of his ass and take his shirt off(I doubt he showers at all). I must say this is not the diviest bar in Canada but it is however full of your local low lifes of East York or whatever the area is called. I feel so sorry for the sap who runs the place-nothing like making a living off the old folks welfare cheques (He should be so proud) and talk about keeping it in the family his son runs a bar doing the exact same thing on Danforth-can't remember the name of the joint but it sucks as well. And I've heard as for the Karaoke host Kimberley beware if you get on her bad side she will have you shot by all her little gangster friends of the area. Hey
Kim give it up and get a real life. I also hear she's a cradle robber and likes to take young men into her apartment late at night after hours.
I hope this comment wasn't too upsetting I had to warn the outside world before they stepped into the unknown. Beware of false teeth and smelly farts-that's what you'll find at the Maple Leaf as well as an invitation
upstairs by the bar dwellers who live and breath at the Maple Leaf. It would be best for society if they condemned places like this.
