Some writers have taken the practice of to a new level by tagging up the shatter-proof polycarbonate windows of trains with homemade markers filled with acidic etching solution, which eats into the plastic windows and leaves a permanent tag. As the is remiss to replace these expensive windows, the tend to run rather permanently on the line.

Daily, I see many tags on the subway line in . Sometimes he also tags up the words "Etch King" after his name.

does the word have the same meaning in the us as it does in the uk?

Peter: heh, slang-wise... probably!

Jamie: 14th Sep 2005 - 14:38 GMT

aah.. it's true what they say. We are two nations seperated by.... the atlantic ocean. ahem.

jack: too bad, there goes our tax money again.

micah: fuck etch.

Peter: 14th Sep 2005 - 18:47 GMT

i agree. but nevertheless, there are folks out there that have never seen it before...

Jime 10, boston, MA, usa: 14th Sep 2005 - 23:21 GMT

fuck etch? etch is totally a natural progression of graffiti. just like those stupid wild style murals where you can't even make out a single letter in a 15 color spaghetti "burner" with tons of doodads but no REAL style but everybody drools over it anyways... ever since the cleaning of NYC subway trains in the 80s, graffiti has been - and always will be - destructive. take it or leave it. there isn't really any middle ground. in a capitalist society, graffiti is destructive by nature. etch ruins a window just as much as spraypaint ruins all kinds of various surfaces.

Peter,
I am looking for a specific internal subway car image for the front of my new jazz CD 'Stand clear of the closing doors'. Is there a way I can get in touch?

Anyone know how to make those etch markers? Do you have to mix the stuff with anything or its just straight up armor etch?

Tyler: 1st Jan 2007 - 02:39 GMT

You could use acid bath, but that's dangerous as a gypsy. But you mix half vinigar, half milk, and make sure it doesnt get washed off.. make sure you let it sit for like an hour

NEWK RoK: 11th Feb 2007 - 03:23 GMT

Dude i been using etch with my crew nd we just use etch bath it rocks on the window,nd i live in new york my boy got a few etch tags on the 7 train, and etch cream wont do much unless you mix it nd if you mix right it should dry,and when it does you can touch it nd it feels really rough.and i have not figured out the etch cream mix yet,and well that shit is fucking crazy because it can explode out of no where when you put it in a marker,so i would reccomend all you young cats to chill with the etch nd grab some paint until some other crazy dude finds out the ill mix LoL

wise one tna wc from montreal: 8th Mar 2007 - 02:41 GMT

yo the olny problem with etching cream its that if you toch it you burn yourself hardly and you need to find a metal mop or metal marker

PS tyler are you sure it works milk and vinegar

yo, if you got Armour etch, how do you thin it out so it'll come through a fabric nib?

Peter: 8th Jun 2007 - 16:24 GMT

im assuming you have etch *cream*? if you thin it enough to get it to flow, itll be too weak to actually etch anything.

google "etch fluid" and get some of that.

Reign Oner: Glass etching cream, yes

Reign Oner: 8th Jun 2007 - 16:32 GMT

well, it's what everyone says is right to use, I just don't know how to get it to go through a window chalk bottle nib

ATAC: 4th Jul 2007 - 01:55 GMT

etch is the shit, its all about ups and how long you have them rocking for othe fuckers to see. etch is just another way of getting up. just like stencils, wheat paste, and posters

NEZ ONE SK: etch bath can be used in plastic mops

EYON*DF*: 14th Jul 2007 - 07:53 GMT

alright so here it is, armor etching cream can be thinned down with mineral spirits (certain kind of paint thinner), or you could get both armor etching cream and bath etch, that mix i heard is the shit, and dont use nibs for the etching cream where as it will not absorb through, go rack a clorox bleach pen, the big ones with two different ends , one big applicator and one for small drippy shit, its ill
do not get caught with this shit class 3 felony, least where i live, be safe.

modok: 24th Jul 2007 - 08:41 GMT

god damn i just baugh a bottle of the shit and i have been trying all night to fill up a pen... i tryed the liquid chalk pens and the bleach double sided pen... im afraid i dont know what to mix in it please some one tell me before a waste my moeny

BigRock: 9th Aug 2007 - 03:15 GMT

well i just made a mop with " Etch Bath " and is it suposed to come out all brownish? last time i used one, it came out clear and dried perfect. but now im tryin to make my own and the shit is all brownish. then i tried it on the mirror in my basement and the next day it wiped right off??? whys this?

NAZE ONE: 2nd Dec 2007 - 00:26 GMT

EYON*DF* is the only one that makes sense but im just gunna put it in a on the run marker and leave of the nib

rustone: 25th Jan 2008 - 16:23 GMT

James: 13th Mar 2008 - 11:12 GMT

Darius,
You sure this works?
Don't want to wast my money on a bottle of etch bath!

...: 24th Mar 2008 - 02:54 GMT

yes he's serious
the only thing u can mix it with is the cream
u dont need to but u can

yea: 18th Sep 2008 - 09:06 GMT

armor etch and etch bath dont work together idiots

malo: 4th Dec 2008 - 07:50 GMT

u can actualy mix etch bath with garvey but then let it sit for a week till u smash somethin and it works more opaque i know this from experience .... etch cream is good to get a good tube like for designs and shit and put it in their for skinny etch tags

BADKID: 9th Feb 2009 - 23:59 GMT

ey where do get etch bath?

cuz i got armour etch at my local art store....and can you just thin it down with acetone? or what?

Peter: 10th Feb 2009 - 04:41 GMT

ive always been curious how people could figure out how to surf into this blog and post comments, but cant seem to figure out how to type simple queries into google, like www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=etch+bath&btnG=Search

oh look, the first hit is www.etchworld.com, which is where i happen to get my etch.

try a little logic and common sense. its not too hard, yall.

eyename.: 18th Feb 2009 - 05:57 GMT

I went onto etchworld.
it doesn't say ho to thin the etch cream out.
how you do that?

Peter: 18th Feb 2009 - 14:53 GMT

you can start by going back and reading any of the countless comments before yours that tell you to use etch bath, not etch cream.

ampoe uac 2113 wck chicago: bath etch is the best

ampoe uac 2113 wck chicago: 15th Apr 2009 - 10:02 GMT
