My Unusual Hobby

In the absence of a working tellybox i've discovered a vast emptyness in my life. An void which i've been neatly stuffing full of braindead talkshows and suchlike. I'm also quite the expert on antiques and property development; such is the daytime schedule of late. But last week during a rather exciting episode of "Homes under the hammer" it all went a little pete tong. The picture went all pink, then it went black with a loud POP. Now, i'm no expert in the black arts of electrickery but i'd say it's definately fucked. Beyond economical repair and i sure as gary glitter loves kids can't afford to have it fixed. The thought crossed my mind to get a job, thus killing two proverbial winged bastards with one stone, but even mc donalds dont employ people like me. See i needed a hobby an my gamut of options was a narrow one. 2b cont.

it'll save you £120 a year - assuming you pay the bbc poll tax

I'll hold my hands up and openly admit i have never paid for a tv licence. I mean owning a tv is hardly a responsibility enough to warrant the necessity of licensing in my opinion. Sure, dog licences, firearms licences i can put forwards valid arguments for both. Sure it pays for advert free bbc channels but what if i don't wanna watch them. i still gotta pay. My new hobby effectively circumvents this situation in a perfectly legal way. And yeah, it started as a way to get my daytime tv fix but its grown into a fulltime full on hobby which has totally taken over my day to day existence. But i'm finding it hard to explain. I must return after some thought.

Peter: what exactly is your hobby? tv repair?

watching tv thru other people's windows? drilling a hole in the floor and using a periscope?

Anyone remember that episode of The Young Ones in which the Telly Inspector comes to see if they have a license and Vivian eats the TV, then tells the inspector it's a toaster when he asks about the chord hanging out of his mouth?

Peter: hahaha yeah! funny.

Ralph: 6th Aug 2005 - 07:21 GMT

Waiting rooms. Waiting rooms have tvs. Doctors. Dentists and various other places. Banks tend to run perpetual sky news or bbc news 24 which i find tiresome. Lots of doctors waiting areas are begining to be locked down on some shitty specialised doctors waiting room bore the arse off you cable channel. Some cheap ass low bandwidth channel. If u sit too close it's like watching an mpeg. But i digress. Waiting room crashing has for me become about so much more than tv license evasion. It's more to do with people watching and the thrill of finding new territory in which to practice my hobby. I'm not mental if thats what you're thinking. It's actually really fun and interesting.
