And sometimes the city is just a bit too much, and we feel down for our roots, to right ourselves for the coming storm.

I hit myself with just a bit of culture shock on the days when I wake up in the metropolis, but by evening I find myself sprawled out on the lawn under an ancient Oak tree. I am not one given to animism or tree worship, but the power of this form is undeniably strong. It really is ten degrees cooler in the country, held beneath the evergreen canopy, and the speed and the rush and the edge of the blade separating worth from worthless is slightly, forgivingly dulled.

An hour's drive home and I'm gearing up again, ready to fight against the blazes that will not die.
