The neighbourhood inquestion is in dramatic social decline. It's a timeless scenario, which starts with abandoned sofas, matresses and other miscellaenous items of unwated home furnishings; quickly progressing on to car parts and a deadly carpet of used hypodermic syringes. This worrying trend usually culminates in a neighbourhood full of burnt out cars, chavs and crack houses. We are currently on stage one progressing to stage two with a rapidly growing chav quotient. Peter: 21st Jul 2005 - 14:55 GMTinteresting photos and commentary, jamie... heres to the neighborhood... before it crashes completely! elaine: 21st Jul 2005 - 15:43 GMTthere's the pikey/squatter end of the spectrum where you have a sofa outside specifically to sit on despite it getting increasingly rancid and infested - a slovenly take on the notion of gardens 'as rooms' elaine: 21st Jul 2005 - 16:26 GMTsee, before all the chav thing took off there was the pikey, which i think, though it is a little different roughly equates to white trash, and now there is this extra division, where the chav as far as i can usefully make out is a pikey with bling. pikeys, really, should be gypsies, (although that doesn't mean they don't live in houses) i believe, but not romany. when i was last in usa i saw a lot of bumper stickers and jeans patches and so on like this
and here (and i really wish i had one to show you) a coupla years ago there was a pikey t shirt which had the nike swoosh. it was fab Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
