The Villa on the Corner

- jeeff - Monday, July 11th, 2005 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

anything can become an obsession. the guy on the corner seems to be obsessed with transforming his old red-brick italianate house (www.ontarioarchitecture.com/italianate.htm) into a real mediterranean villa. what fascinates me is the way he combines the ornate embellishments with the sense of decay. he's out there every evening puttering around, yet the windows, all shrouded with gauzy curtains, always look deserted. and he often has the lawn sprinklers out at 1am.

wow, what a project. great entry, jeeff. id never have imagiend italianate architecture in toronto otherwise :)

isnt that how it always works? the people who embark on these sorts of projects are always ambitious... yet eccentric enough to leave the hosue vacant-ish inside and be out watering the lawn at 1am, heh...
