i stayed in montreal for a week and a half. i walked for hours and days through the streets. the sun melted through my arms, i breathed to the pulse of the concrete in my feet.

a park was pressed on all sides by houses, i walked into it toward two men, one holding a guitar and the other a double bass. i asked to photograph them, they agreed. i shot and left the park around the corner as they started to play again.

the guitar player sang beneath the sparrows and through the cars. the sun pushed me down against a wall just around the corner from the music. i set up a microphone and sat with my back against an old brick wall, listening.

The sound of birds in the background is amazing-I really like the way you incorporate sound into the post. Touches more than one sense. Too bad there isn't a way to smell the grass too...

awesome as always, hool! why dont you give us some background on how you record the sounds? im curious...

hool: 8th Jul 2005 - 23:45 GMT

the recording is simple. i just used a minidisc recorder and a microphone, recording in full stereo. minidisc recording quality is great. i used a stereo microphone to record all the surrounding noise. i should have used a foam wind baffle to block the wind, but i did not have one.

the best part is passing the input through to headphones, to monitor the live recording. it's like the whisper2000. suddenly every sound is ultra crisp and lucid and full. hyper reality.

were they playing jazz and smoking grass ?? i like that thought.

zagg: interactive citynoise. love it.

Sad Man

I was walking around in St-Henri (St-Jacques St.) and saw this man in a window. He seemed so sad. So the logical thing to do was capture this sadness in a picture. However I didnt have my tripod and of...
