wow, the variety of things shown and the didactic style of the captions really flesh out the feel of the neighborhood

i was right around there this sunday, trying to get to brighton beach to be among my fellow russian expats. it took me longer to get across the city than it took me to come up.

yes, it's great. It sort of builds as you wander through, like walking around....

Peter: 22nd Jun 2005 - 13:08 GMT

lived here in the late 50s when I was 11 and for the first time in almost 50 years. great revival, just as if listening to the coasters on the corner of st. johns pl.
thank you so much for the ride.

Peter: 15th Nov 2005 - 19:40 GMT

robert: awesome! we'd love to hear some stories about what the neighborhood was like back then, or... dare i say it... see some photos, if you have any...

peter: Got some b&w and color shots from way back, even some 8mm color movies filmed at the corner of washington av.
and st. johns pl., eastern pkwy.,brooklym museum, prospect park and the botanic garden. God, I love that place! my e mail is rofig7@yahoo.es please send me a note whenever you're willing to do so. thanks, robert

Peter: just dropped you a note, robert :)

shades of Guernica! Picasso should have lived here! Maybe someone can post a few shots of those new (glass/out of place) new developments on Pacific Street and also Washington Avenue (big glass windows overlooking the neighbors' smaller houses, going to be COLD in the winter...) and don't forget that glass monster at One Eastern Pkwy. A nice design, but where is the brick or limestone face? In a brick and limestone neighborhood?
