Going to Jamaica

- GGP - Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 : goo

We flew from JFK International Airport on Thursday. I took a few shots of the sky. I like being parallel to the clouds; it calms me down. And I like seeing other planes in the sky: parallel lives. Still, ANY plane in the sky other than MY plane always feels a bit too close for comfort.

The Caribbean's impossible greenish-blue.

Montego Bay, Jamaica.

A boat named "Di Evil Tings" on the Southern Coast. There were a lot of great names for things, my favorite of which was a roadside drinking hole called "Dainty Bar"--we sped by Dainty Bar too fast to get a good shot of it.

The structure on the left is called the Pelican Bar. It's built on stilts, set out on a submerged sandbar. You have to take a boat to get there, or I suppose you could wade in from the shore. It's a good distance, though. The structure to the right is the "store". We stopped at the Pelican Bar for a mandatory Red Stripe (best beer in the western hemisphere) and chat with the owner. The place had an amazing shell collection.

Here's a (somewhat) better shot of the store.

We visited Black River in a boat--a beautiful mangrove preserve.

i love the plane window pictures. I've always thought a book of airplane pictures would be great; probably one already exists! Always think it's amazing that you really can look at clouds from both sides now...
