Responsible Persons

'to all responsible persons...'
sounds like the opening of a bill burroughs epic to me. presumably the original intention was not that, but whatever it was is lost. this building is now one of the many local prayer-meets for the local muslim men who gather to pray every day. that was probably not the intention either. and yet here we are now. muslims praying in the yard outside in front of this exhortation, and me passing by having bill burroughs going off in my head '...who controls control?'

i can't believe they equate trolls and culture jammers in that wiki article. that's totally false.

elaine: 30th May 2005 - 17:12 GMT

good point, jeeff, but you know the wikipedia thing is you can change the articles they have, add to, refine, etc. i think there is an editorial lull, and not everything will be accepted, but it seems to me that there is a greyscale between outright fucking with people and being contentious, in a zenslap way (see all my new lingo i learned!) and you want one but not the other, and it's not binary but much more muggy than that

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 14:34 GMT

I knew I had heard the word "Hackney" in many different contexts, but I never realized so many modern phrases stem from there. www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-hac1.htm

By the way, I think a shot from along the building, with both the Hackney sign and the clockface visible, would be quite interesting. Elaine, if you pass this building again, could you be so kind as to humour me?

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 14:56 GMT

ok. it's round the corner from my house. but you know the power of laziness...

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 15:19 GMT

Laziness? Never heard of it. By the way, I plan to quit procrastinating tomorrow. I really mean it this time.

LOL, no worries, would just be interesting to see the shot some day, and since I have no way to get to London, I figure asking you is my only chance. New York and Toronto, I can both reach in 5 hours in my car, so if I see a shot I really want to take in someone's post, I can always go there and do it myself.

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 17:59 GMT

i will do it, you know. it just. takes. me. some. time. to get off my ass. if you had a concorde you could prolly get here quite quick. maybe quicker than me going alll the way around the corner!

Peter: 10th May 2006 - 18:03 GMT

...assuming, that is, that it didnt explode on takeoff! :-0

jeeff: that's a spicy meatball.

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 18:11 GMT

My day is getting better and better. Laughing always feels so good. Thanks, gang!

Um, except... are there still Concordes flying? I thought they were all in museums or scrapyards now.

I can hear you speaking with a pseudo-Italian accent, jeeff. Good one.

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 18:19 GMT

well yes, no. they don't go anymore. but then neither do routemaster buses and you can get one of them for 2000gbp

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 18:26 GMT

Hmmmm, interesting... I should look up Concordes online, but I have a personal vendetta with those crooks at eBay, and I have no idea who else would sell them. And I wonder how much it would cost to fill the fuel tanks on a Concorde at today's prices? For that price, maybe I am better off digging a tunnel to Bristol, where my stepdaugter's grandmother lives.

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 18:35 GMT

i think it may cost a bit, yes. though what with the advances in chipfat fuel and stuff... and if you were only using it for personal transport you could use the cabin for whatever fuel you were needing if it wasn't as efficient as petrol.

EvilGentleman: A steam-powered Concorde, perhaps?

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 18:57 GMT

cow's farts, water, anything, as long as it could all get in. you'd have the luggage bit as well. i think it could be a good one.

Brooklyn's Simple Life

He lives in a converted semi trailer and has a killer car collection. I asked him when he was gonna bust em out for the summer, and he gazed at the sky, laughing, and said "Soon!" while clapping. Interestingly, this spot...
