October on the Danforth

- Michelle - Monday, October 13th, 2008 : goo

Took a stroll on the Danforth today. Not too busy since it is Thanksgiving.

Here's the new big box Shopper's that moved into town, rather large and overwhelming considering it is two stories high and about 4 storefronts across. Way out of place I think.

And of course it's election day tomorrow, so lots of signs to be seen, although no green party sign in with this mixture. I thought it kind of ironic that this is a vacant lot.

Kind of neat with the flowers peeping out next to the phone booth.

nice. ive always liked how certain parts of town can be referred to as, say, "the danforth" as opposed to "". there are lots of places like that here in too...

Peter, I agree - i'm sort of fascinated by neighborhood names in general, the older the better. I'm trying to think of places like you mentioned in NY; I guess "the Bowery" would be one, though any given part of what was once referred to by that name now probably goes by "East Village" or "Lower East Side" or "NoHo" or "NoLIta"

ahh the bowery, i had an account in the old bowery savings bank that my grandparents started for me in the 40's. i still drive by there on occasion to visit stores for special supplies. how about the silk stocking district, the five corners, the meat market, hells kitchen where i went to school, marble hill and manhattenville.
