Browsing articles by Elicar - [previous] :: [next]I was walking west on College just before 3:00PM when all of a sudden, police cars were coming from everywhere, blocking the College/Bay intersection. A crowd gathered and everyone seemed to be looking up. Seeing a Citynoise opportunity, I hang around.
The cops cordoned off the east side of Bay south of College and directed the onlookers, me included to the other side of Bay. It was only then when I saw what was going on. It was this man! Sweetie, what can be so bad?
I actually felt bad for the guy! But he left the window, so I knew he was safe for the moment. I left after taking this picture. The following is the article on the Star published 45 minutes ago: Man uses hammer and chisel to smash out downtown highrise window The intersection at Bay and College Sts. was closed Saturday afternoon after a man smashed out a window using a hammer and chisel. Police said a man smashed out a window of an office around the 15th floor of 777 Bay St. around 2:45 p.m. He was seen looking out at the street before phoning police. The emergency task force was called to the scene, as was an aerial unit. Police took the man to a hospital with no injuries. They say he was the only person involved in the incident. This article has been viewed 7187 times in the last 45 months Truth be Known: 4th Jan 2012 - 02:27 GMTThe comment above is insensitive and without compassion. This man works for an organization internally known for driving its staff and management to the brink of emotional collapse, he is not the first to suffer. The people who work in this organization are all asking the same questions, did the organization and the lack of decency from bosses and colleagues, drive him to this? All this took place at his place of work, new year's eve. You decide.
be strong: 5th Jan 2012 - 01:24 GMTYou shouldn't jump to conclusions that it had something to do with work or make jokes about not receiving a merit increase. No one really knows what was going through his mind to drive him to this point. Franny Wentzel: 5th Jan 2012 - 03:10 GMTTo the one who thinks he knows the truth. If the bloke has made a Jackson Pollack on the pavement we wouldn't be making jokes - OK we would still be making jokes but they would've been very very wrong. This guy busted a window and is now in a nice comfy hospital bed for his troubles. Lighten up. anon (gwrtracy.tor.axxent.ca): 5th Jan 2012 - 18:15 GMTYou don't know what drove him to do it. It might be your son or your mother next time.... Franny Wentzel: 5th Jan 2012 - 21:24 GMTMilton Waddams breaks a window to get attention. Worlds. Smallest. Violin. A Reader: 6th Jan 2012 - 14:18 GMTYou say “he is now in a nice comfy hospital bed”? It sounds like you speak from experience with your many hospital stays! Franny Wentzel: 6th Jan 2012 - 15:14 GMTIf you mean by the series of reconstructive surgeries on account of injuries received from random items tossed out a high-rise window by some whiny attention-seeker with no regard for the traffic below... then yes, I do speak from experience. Gov: 6th Jan 2012 - 20:35 GMTYou seem to have no regard for mental health issues in our community which is sad. That makes you a very ignorant person and one with out regard for human life. Franny Wentzel: 6th Jan 2012 - 21:25 GMTWhatever. Your kind measures compassion in how many dollar bills you can wheedle from the earners of society. Suffice to say you're barking up the wrong tree but I'm more than happy to waste your time. Franny Wentzel: 6th Jan 2012 - 21:28 GMTIn a world So many people...have their problems What are you, in love with your problems? In a world where people have problems Whinny Frentzel: 6th Jan 2012 - 22:01 GMTHey, I can quote song lyrics too! Well I was drivin' down I-95 the other night. Were you born an asshole? Yes you're an A S S H O L E... You were an asshole yesterday. And I was talkin' to your mother And all your friends are assholes Were you born an asshole? Just Sayin....: 7th Jan 2012 - 01:36 GMTI have no words to describe how sick I feel to my stomach reading all this garbage. This is an individual who has a familly, employees and friends who will never look at him the same after this. It's a pity that we cannot be compassionate towards people's misfortune. But...there is alot more of this to come. Open your eyes and listen to your employees. This guy turned inward, but there are those who turn outward. Employees' sick rates are at a high, employees are forced to lower their standards in work life and home life, everyone is worried about the future, not to mention how difficult it is to gain some fairness in the workplace. It's not rocket science people. Just open your eyes and ears and know that no one is an exception. Get to the root of the problem.....or deal with the affect this will eventually have on the public....since there are very, very few happy people in the workplace. Go figure! Thank you "Truth be Known" for sharing your thoughts. Franny Wentzel: 7th Jan 2012 - 01:57 GMTIsn't it ironic you and your sock puppets want to rail against societal attitudes towards the mentally ill and yet have no problem in implying mental illness in your presumed idiological opponent - furthering the stigmatisation of the mentally ill. But then that's the way with Alinskyite tactics, isn't it? Franny Wentzel: 7th Jan 2012 - 02:07 GMTFolks, I'd like to sing a song about the American Dream I'm just a regular Joe, with a regular job But sometimes that just ain't enough to keep a man like me interested I'm an asshole (he's an asshole, what an asshole) I use public toilets and I piss on the seat I'm an asshole (he's an asshole, what an asshole) Sometimes I park in handicapped spaces I'm an asshole (he's an asshole, what an asshole) Maybe I shouldn't be singing this song I'm an asshole (he's an asshole, what an asshole) You know what I'm gonna do? (Hey! You know, you really are an asshole!) A-S-S-H-O-L-E
Unclear: 9th Jan 2012 - 01:09 GMTI am not sure what the point of this blog posting was. What was the poster trying to accomplish? All I see is the reckless actions of some self-professed 'photo journalist' splashing the face of some man on what will likely be remembered as the worst day of his life. What was gained by committing this man's actions to the collective elephant-like memory of the Internet. All I see are some crappy photos, accompanied by some less than insightful commentary. Bravo - maybe in your next life you'll be an ambulance chasing lawyer. Franny Wentzel: 9th Jan 2012 - 07:37 GMTAlinsky was right about one thing. Best way to mindfuck take-everything-serious prigs is with no-holds-barred mockery. Franny Wentzel: 9th Jan 2012 - 07:39 GMTThat and some words of wisdow from one of the greatest poets of any era... I've seen you in the mirror And I fell in love with you. A-no feelings Hello and goodbye I got no feelings There ain't no moonlight A-no feelings except for myself
Elicar: 10th Jan 2012 - 02:32 GMTTo Unclear: What's with all the hatred, negativity and anger? And pray do tell: Where did I profess to be a photojournalist? You should read what Citynoise is all about. We should all take responsibility of our actions. This person just caused the destruction of property. Not to mention the at least 5 cop cars and two fire trucks that responded. That's you tax dollars in use or wasted. If you read the article from the Star which I included, he used a chisel and a hammer, tools not usually available in an office building. He either had to get it from the maintenance room or bring it himself? What does that tell you? But thank you for your insights. I have a good career now, thank you. Perhaps it should be you who should consider changing your career. It may make you a little less miserable. Cheers and and happy new year to you. thetruth: 11th Jan 2012 - 19:05 GMTIt is annoying when the media tries hide information, especially when it comes to the government. This building is a Service Ontario, government of Ontario office where the director was driven to extreme frustration. I have witnessed multiple cases this year where the government takes no responsibility and treat their employees like a piece os S*#?!! And premier McGuinty knows it all and he does nothing about it but preach nonsense diversity programs that are used as a weapon to fire minorities. NEMESIS ENFORCER - OPS EMPLOYEE: 11th Jan 2012 - 19:25 GMTWell said and absolutely true. I will be writing a book shortly stay tuned. This is one of many stories. Tax Payer: 11th Jan 2012 - 19:33 GMTWow is this true I have heard of the corruption but had no idea. Seems the system is broken I am aware of a number of family and friends who work for the government and this is not the first of these stories. The media along side the government try to hide the truth. Well I will support your book if it does come out, should be an interesting read. OPS Auditor: 11th Jan 2012 - 19:42 GMTI am an auditor asked by OPS employees to audit management behaviour for over two years. Working with the police, I have come across Human Rights violations that may explain this behaviour. I am preparing public presentation through police service boards. This article suggests I need to act now to avoid unnecessary loss of life. I am writing this to inform OPS employees to hang on as help is coming. OPS Auditor: 11th Jan 2012 - 20:06 GMTMy audit specifically covers relevant incidents including "Walkerton" and "lead in water". Coincidentally OPS Head Shelly Jamieson recently stepped down after receiving a series of letters from the investigation team I work with. One of the letter writers was the head of a UK Medical Doctor team. The UK expertise was necessary due to their familiarity with what we in Ontario find hard to believe. Appropriately, this team is called upon by Ontario to teach our Medical specialists how to deal with this sort of thing. Perhaps this should be considered a public request for Ms. Jamieson to make herself available to a public inquest. I will consider comments addressing my question as indications of relevant interest for a public inquest. Tax Payer: 11th Jan 2012 - 20:12 GMTSo true... Drinking Water is a joke. They sent pink slips to a large number of inspectors for drinking water recently and kept some dumbass paper pushers instead... go figure! Would you not rather hands on staff that actually do work vs. some incompetent family friend of the Director making 90K and there only project is Emergency Management! Ask them what they do all day??? Just saying... OPS Auditor: 11th Jan 2012 - 20:40 GMTTo all bloggers, please note names should generally not be named, except where information is publicly available, and where it is, it is helpful to state the source. I am making this statement to be responsible with my poll. OPS is not an equal opportunity employer: 11th Jan 2012 - 20:53 GMTTo: OPS auditor- I am requesting to make Shelly Jamieson accountable. I have a few questions for her myself. The new replacement for Shelly Jamieson has no idea what has been happening.
FIRMs a joke: 11th Jan 2012 - 21:03 GMTPoor guy. Shelly is accountable, the new guy is just a pawn. I agree just another quick shuffle so that the blame gets buried! When will this stop? OPS pays out hush orders to the sum of billions of dollars and the public is none the wiser. Time to clean shop! Better yet lets FOI the money paid to employees who are harassed! FACT: 11th Jan 2012 - 21:08 GMTSources indicate: 1. This guy was in a Provincial Office and Building probably his own. 2. He is an employee of the OPS 3. Why is everyone hiding the truth? I want to know what drove this man to this? I could probably guess...... FACT: 11th Jan 2012 - 21:08 GMTSources indicate: 1. This guy was in a Provincial Office and Building probably his own. 2. He is an employee of the OPS 3. Why is everyone hiding the truth? I want to know what drove this man to this? I could probably guess...... g-unit: 11th Jan 2012 - 21:21 GMTI don't understand how all this corruption goes on in the government (all levels) and yet the media is completely silent on the issue. I would think a story as juicy as the nonsense that goes on in the government would be a no-brainer - but the media refuses to touch any of it. I used to feel bad for those countries with state-controlled media but then I realized that just because our media isn't state-controlled doesn't mean its not controlled. ghg222: 11th Jan 2012 - 23:27 GMTThis window belongs to a Service Ontario government office. What happens to public facing employees is nothing compared to what happens when no one is looking. baystworker: 12th Jan 2012 - 01:24 GMTThis is horrible news. This employee was driven to the brink of his life. Since our tax dollars are being spent, I would like to know what is going on at OPS to make employees do this. The government needs to realize that they serve us the people and hiding behind a wall of secercy is not democracy. Just a Citizen: 12th Jan 2012 - 01:38 GMTWow there is a lot of crap in these posts - corruption, accusations of systemic problems hush money etc.. Keep that to the Toronto Sun comments pages where it belongs. This is a tragedy and I feel for this guy. I am glad he is safe and I hope he get's the help and support he needs. I hope his family and people he works with are also supported too. you just an ignorant citizen: 12th Jan 2012 - 02:16 GMTAre you a senior manager in the OPS? You sure sound like one. Do not assume that these are untruths, multiple cases of this harassment in the government exists, examples with testimonials will soon become public. This belongs on the National not the Sun. You are either not a minority, benefitted from this corruption or related to these assholes. Unclear: 16th Jan 2012 - 22:50 GMTWho do you hold accountable? The man driven to attempt suicide or the society who drove him there? My point is we all (blogger included) need to show everyone a little more understanding and compassion. Also any amount of tax dollars spent to save this man (or any other person) and get them the help they need is money well spent in my opinion. Hugs & Kisses OPS Friend: 1st Apr 2012 - 21:44 GMTThe untold story here is this intelligent and fun-loving man survived a terrible year-long fight against cancer and beat it. He returned to work but I fear too soon. He needs our sympathy and understanding not some of the insensitive commentary that has been posted here. Shame on you.
