The Daily Commute

The first leg of my commute involves taking the 2/3 subway from Eastern Parkway, in Brooklyn, to the PATH station at the World Trade Center site. This photo is of the morning rush on the subway, Manhattan-bound. As you can tell, its often hard to get a seat, packed as it were, like sardines...

The doors of the PATH train, just before they close, after boarding from the WTC platform. The white area that blurs into the background is what's left of the "hole" of Ground Zero...

A fellow sleepy commuter on the PATH, awakening on arrival at Newark Penn Station. The conductor repeatedly yells "End of the line!" very loudly, over the loudspeaker, apparently to ensure that no drowsy rider continues to sleep as the train goes back to the storage yard after the morning rush...

This peculiar shot was taken right outside the entrance to Newark Penn Station. Its only redeeming value is that the subject had his shirt tucked so tightly into his underpants that they had slipped up above his belt, as you might be able to see as a blue band around his waist. What an odd old man. He was bumbling around asking everyone where he could catch a taxi, oblivious to everyone's confused reminders that he was, in fact, standing right in front of the taxi booth, lined down the block with yellow cabs, ergo making it rather hard to miss...

While waiting for my bus, to my troubling surprise, I discovered a rather substantial blood splatter on the wall. Ahh, Newark...
