Pete Hamill, perhaps one of the greatest writers and chroniclers of the City of New York, posed for my camera on a beautiful afternoon on Orchard Street in Manhattan.

A collection of photographs of the people that embrace and embody New York City would be nil without this man.

Born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, his writing career began as a journalist at the New York Post as a young man in 1960, and since then he has compiled an extraordinary aggregate of works as a journalist, essayist, and novelist, having published 20 books.

He is the only person, living or dead, to have edited both the New York Post and The Daily News- two of New York's most prominent tabloid newspapers.

I'm a columnist for the Athens Banner-Herald (onlineathens.com), the daily newspaper here in Athens, GA. I just finished reading Pete Hamill's "Tabloid City" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also enjoyed his "News Is A Verb" book. Thanks for a great photo of a great scribe who personifies the Big Apple,
