Fixing a Busted Door Latch

Poking around the house for fix-it projects before the summer heat wave kicks in...

...thought you folks out there might want to see the insides of old-fashioned door hardware.

This door latch is broken - let's have a looksie...

Don't forget to remove the doorknob.

The latch mechanism was a bitch and a hell pulling out.

Something kept snagging on the door cutout.

Opening the mechanism and we find...

...part of the latchkey had broken off - likely since before I was born.

These parts were bent, broken or in need of cleaning. Luckily I have a spare mechanisim to cannibalise.
