St. Lawrence Market Hall, Before & After

- Patrick - Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 : goo

St. Lawrence Market, arguably the oldest market in Toronto, is getting a drastic makeover. Thankfully it's not the historic south market but the newer gray box addition on the north side of Front street.

Local farmers sell their produce there on Saturdays and antiques are sold there on Sundays. The north market will become, ironically, the south market as it's moved to the former parking lot for the market, south of the main building, during construction. Kinda glad I don't drive. :)

There are currently five proposed designs (known only by colours), for the new north market. Unfortunately the public gets "input" only as it's ultimately up to a committee, but I'm rooting for the orange team.

There's much much more to see over at www.toronto.ca/stlawrence_market/design/.

Here are the now / proposed-future shots for each design:

First Bridge Across the Mississippi

The Hennipen Avenue bridge. I guess it was the first permanent bridge across the Mississippi river. I took this photo standing on the bridge Grain Belt Beer Sign and I took this on the way to work last week. You can see...
