Robot Building
[previous] :: [next]
check this out! i love it. i am such an unreconstructed athropomophist, but look! angry robot building, don't you think? it will probably be invisible when it's done, the angriness, and the robotness both. This article has been viewed 8430 times in the last 3 years
elaine: 3rd May 2005 - 15:29 GMTi have become more futurama identified lately due to the insistant dvd playing of my brother at xmas, and because of a terrible thing they did to the simpsons.yes, i have stopped watching it becase they moved it from bbc to channel 4 which means there is not only adverts in the middle but a sponsors blah, and frankly, that's enough for me. they didn't jump the shark, but saturation and sponsorship and a heavy plug for a new potential favourite, well.. and here's the proof! prisma: 3rd May 2005 - 17:14 GMTwoah i see the robot in it. thats pretty kewl to visualise it like so. elaine: 13th May 2005 - 14:30 GMTweird, isn't it? had to share. poor robot, he is getting all bricked up
Peter: 13th May 2005 - 16:11 GMTyeah, i too would like to see the robot's progress through photos! ;)
elaine: 13th May 2005 - 16:26 GMTpeter, you are an optomist. i feel the scaffolding was his golden age and it's all down hill from here, but then i am a pessimist. perhaps it will all be zuper when he is finished, or he will be toten hosen, except in these pages... where he lives! Marc: 29th Jun 2005 - 04:43 GMTELAINE! the may29th pic you posted- near the gasworks- i have been in that building, had dinner there one night with a friend of a friend who lived there- we checked out that rooftop antenna- the friend who lived there was working on a hospital design in india.. crazy world. top floor denizen. really beautiful interior, much indian/bangla.. elaine: 29th Jun 2005 - 08:55 GMThey, marc. come back, we missyou. you said you were coming over this summer, is that happening? virually all the pics i have posted are within a 20 min walk of that building, as you probably realise. that building is the same as 'also spotted' but from a different angle. the lock is choked with water weeds and rubbish, which will be his view at the moment. posting pics soon, but am in brighton on a slow connexion just now
piranha erem: 21st Jul 2005 - 15:44 GMTi love this series of "faces". someone should make an entry of just faces on things such as this. i would, but i have no "face" photos. elaine: 1st Aug 2005 - 16:28 GMTi am so excited! i have seen the robotbuilding i want to put in here, but the only thing is that i didnt have a camera with me today. i was almost sick with excitement GGP: 8th Aug 2005 - 20:02 GMT
elaine: 10th Aug 2005 - 07:55 GMTwow, positively transcendental. the robots are getting so much better gods than us these days elaine: 12th Aug 2005 - 14:09 GMTif you made just a tiny fire? just to see his eyes light up? i only want to see him happy elaine: 12th Aug 2005 - 14:28 GMTyou are very brave staying behind to film while everyone else is saving their lives, what a trooper! Jamie: 7th Sep 2005 - 14:34 GMTwhat about this angry fellow? He lives inside a white 1995 fiat punto.
elaine: 7th Sep 2005 - 14:55 GMThee hee hee. i would be friends with him. i feel i could get really drunk and drape myself over him and tell him all my woes and he would cheer me up Jamie: 7th Sep 2005 - 14:59 GMTI'll let you in on a little secret. If you are very nice to him (and not too largely built) you can sit inside of him. He has a courtesy seat for your comfort and you can see through his eyes on an old colour tv screen. that is if you want to. soyelmango: 14th Sep 2005 - 22:18 GMTI thought it was just me who saw these little animals holding the tracks on the DLR. There is a book of 'faces' in the photographer's gallery bookshop.
GGP: 18th Oct 2005 - 15:56 GMTI agree with Jamie; he looks forelorn, contemplative--like he's biting his lip; a bit insectlike, too. GGP: 26th Oct 2005 - 18:03 GMTkind of wiley e. coyote like, I might add. wow. everything is morphing into everything else--! Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 8th Dec 2005 - 17:52 GMT'cos you should be sad during a fire. All your shit is burning. Peter: 8th Dec 2005 - 17:55 GMTthe weird part is that there was neither a fire... nor an actual fire extinguisher. just this robot-face sticker on the wall. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 8th Dec 2005 - 18:27 GMTHis very reason for being has been denied him. I'm sad too. GGP: 8th Dec 2005 - 20:03 GMTrobot truck spotted on NY Thruway 2 weeks back. seems to have a bit of a runny nose; flu season's upon us.
Myke: 8th Dec 2005 - 20:09 GMTAgreed, that is rather awesome. This whole article has been fun to look at.
Peter: 4th Jan 2006 - 16:30 GMTthis robot is named Adorn. he has two red eyes, and a quaint little cap:
elaine: 4th Jan 2006 - 16:45 GMTmyke, that one really is awesome. Peter: 4th Jan 2006 - 16:50 GMTadorn lives near the atlantic center mall in brooklyn. what with the dmv there, the largest shopping area in the area (maybe the city?) and the huge pathmark grocery he's attached to, id imagine he has alot to see. ergo all the eyes. i think his hat rings under certain circumstances, also, at which point his red set of eyes lights up... though when i saw him, he was sleeping. elaine: 4th Jan 2006 - 16:52 GMTwoo! Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 4th Jan 2006 - 16:53 GMTI wouldn't want to be around when he wakes up. He may go on a rampage.
elaine: 4th Jan 2006 - 17:28 GMTor it could say 'nexus 6'... or'nexus fl.1084' as my washing machine is, a massive part of why i bought it ::blushes:: Peter: 5th Jan 2006 - 18:25 GMTthis robot gobbles up power-cables like spaghetti: two snoozing, grinning robots: Peter: 5th Jan 2006 - 18:48 GMTi think they moved this bus shelter in order to give that building room to do its thing...
GGP: 11th Jan 2006 - 15:12 GMTthat last robot looks like he just came back from a third-rate exhibit of modernist art. groovehouse: 11th Jan 2006 - 16:42 GMTI always thought these print heads looked like bot faces and hopefully you do too!
Jamie: 11th Jan 2006 - 16:56 GMThe looks like johnny five, star of 'short circuit' and 'short circuit 2'
GGP: 11th Jan 2006 - 20:40 GMTrobo-minnie visits the building opposite the gasworks, London, E8, UK
elaine: 12th Jan 2006 - 10:07 GMT
this is what he looks like now, having been to the dentists... Jamie: 12th Jan 2006 - 12:34 GMTelaine: you have redressed the cosmic balance, and for that we thank you. Peter: 14th Feb 2006 - 18:56 GMTowl-like keyhole-faced robot discovered under the seat on the path train:
GGP: 17th Feb 2006 - 15:23 GMTrobotic churches or churchy robots? you decide. these were taken during sunday's big snow. robot in meditative state
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 17th Feb 2006 - 18:47 GMTI like to think of the door handles as nostrils. Or maybe tiny, ineffectual arms. elaine: 17th Feb 2006 - 18:51 GMTi like to think they are tiny innefectual arms coming out of nostrils...;-D
Peter: 20th Feb 2006 - 19:09 GMTthe robot building's cousin apparently lives in Crown heights, brooklyn:
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 20th Feb 2006 - 21:24 GMTIt's looking at the camera. A kind of coy, sideways glance. And you'll notice, it has a glint in it's eye.
Peter: 21st Feb 2006 - 02:29 GMTi call it "scarface" cause of the scrape under its eye. its new! i bet it gets a new coat of paint soon... ill keep yall posted.
Peter: 22nd Feb 2006 - 16:05 GMTalas, the wire-spaghetti-eating robot has been put out for trash pickup. here you see him enjoying a disused computor monitor as his last-meal. we bid you a fond adieu, oh rolly spaghettibot!
Peter: 24th Feb 2006 - 19:35 GMTa spaceman van robot! (note that he is sitting in front of the cepeda bodega):
elaine: 25th Feb 2006 - 10:40 GMTi love his eyes, and also the way he is talking out the side of his mouth like a gangster out of an old movie Peter: 3rd Mar 2006 - 18:05 GMTthe provenance of the spaghettibot's demise and subsequent disposal by facilities management:
...with so much paperwork necessary to simply discard an obsolete, disused bot, its no wonder this guy feels censured by all the red-tape:
jeeff: 24th Mar 2006 - 02:34 GMTportuguese architect alvaro siza's oporto school of architecture (swiped from www.classic.archined.nl/news/0101/siza.html we talked about this guy in class today. when this slide came up i gasped. sure enough, the prof mentioned anthropomorphism. elaine: 24th Mar 2006 - 09:33 GMThappy fellers! i love the idea that you gasped in your lecture. anthropomorphism www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=define%3Aanthropomorphism&btnG=Search&meta=
GGP: 17th Apr 2006 - 15:12 GMTis that a frog spewing blue fan-coral in the lower right?
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 19th Apr 2006 - 22:06 GMTThe soap-bot has bags under his eyes after a late night. groovehouse: 19th Apr 2006 - 22:21 GMTElaine, I saw the soap-bot because it's been sitting on that barrel for about a week! I finally just got around to photographing it!! CPW, you're right! It does look like it's had a late night!! LOL!! MUST POST MORE BOT PICTURES!!! POST YOURS TODAY!!!
Peter: 15th Jun 2006 - 16:35 GMTthe above-pictured toothy guy's cousin, with his much shorter pal: another bot peering out of his bunker, extending a metal hand to clasp any unwelcome intruders: old knobby-eyes, sitting out on the sidewalk for yesterday's trash pickup: mccarf: 5th Jul 2006 - 18:41 GMTYeah that looks amasingly like a robot, and by like a robot I mean NOT LIKE a robot groovehouse: 11th Jul 2006 - 19:06 GMT
Happy Robot Face!! Not my image, found on flickr. groovehouse: 8th Jan 2007 - 18:11 GMTif anyone here has a flickr account, I've created a group called, "Looks Like A Robot" - feel free to join and post your Bot Faces! Rahid1: 16th Jul 2007 - 11:14 GMT

Jamie: 14th May 2008 - 22:12 GMTRobotfaces selling us stuff we don't want
Jamie: 15th May 2008 - 00:22 GMTThese have both been on UK TV recently. Elaine's Sixy Trolls have been in a Volvo advertisement too. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
