I zoomed in and cropped out the cops that were in the background just for fun... its hard to see but they are there.

Here's what I wanted to share with you today from a box of old photos of my city that I found. I loved how they just capture a moment in time... the people seem to be going to work or maybe even to a train station or something.

how haunting and lovely. the old car crashes are freaky looking.

i love the old car crashes, the police in the background gives me the shivers. very ghost like. :)

in the last one somehow they look like they are cuddling. it is great when you find a hook in to old pictures. i read an article once by a woman who had collected postcards of paris street scenes, and in one of them a man is arranging his flies coming out of a toilet, which is a very human moment from the 1920s suddenly, and these details have that too, because of the undone-ness of things

I like it because, as times pass, only the aesthetic/pretty/postcard-ish moments are preserved... its not often you see such random, candid photos... of people simply walking around, of car crashes... from that period of time. awesome.

I say that the subjective is in a very real sense objective.

Lili: Objective Root.

that last one is especially wonderful--abstract and geometric; the sun hitting the car door handle moves me.

elaine: the punctum, for you GGP

I hope these two will also end up in a glass box, for the education of future generations of tourists.
